I'd suggest you focus on one line at first, this way you get to experience a wide variety of ships the fastest. If you try and level 3 nations at once you'll be playing DD's forever, then CL's forever, then CA's forever, then BB1's forever, etc. etc. If you focus on one you can level up a lot faster, and experience a lot of stuff and then that lets you make better decisions about what you want to do for your next Nation. My US line that I went first was a complete disaster, but once I reached BB I decided I wanted to try CV so I went IJN, what I had learned from playing BB I was able to apply to my IJN line, and my IJN CV crew is pretty awesome. Let yourself make all your mistakes with one line, then once you know the ins and outs, go back and level another crew if you want to try and diff nation.
